Feast of Christ the King Prayer

Prayer for the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (last Sunday of the liturgical year). Established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 against the rising tide of secularism.

The Feast of Christ the King Prayer is for the solemnity at the end of the liturgical year, established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 against the rising tide of secularism. It proclaims that Christ rules over every power, family and heart. The prayer asks you to crown him in your daily choices. It is a fitting way to end the Church year before Advent begins. Pius XI wrote that peace would only come when people and nations accept the kingship of Christ. The prayer is not political; it is personal. It asks Christ to reign in your home, workplace and thoughts, and to give you the courage to live by the Gospel when the world does not.

Feast of Christ the King Prayer

Act of Consecration to Christ the King:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, You have made known to us Your kingdom: a kingdom of truth and life, of holiness and grace, of justice, love, and peace. We acknowledge You as Lord and King of the universe.

O Christ, we offer You our hearts. May our families, our communities, and our nations belong to You. May You reign in our hearts, our homes, our schools, and our nations.

Prayer for the Feast of Christ the King:
Lord Jesus Christ, You are King — not as the world understands kingship, with power and force, but as You showed on the Cross: a King who serves, who washes feet, who lays down His life for His subjects.

You said, 'My kingdom is not of this world.' And yet You claimed kingship over every world, every heart, every moment of history.

On this last Sunday of the Church's year, we look toward the end of all things — toward that day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Until that day, may Your kingdom come in me. May Your will be done in my life as it is in heaven. May I live each day as a citizen of Your eternal kingdom, ruled by love, animated by grace, and pointed always toward You — the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Amen.
