Epiphany Prayer

Prayers for the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6) — the manifestation of Christ to the Magi, the Baptism of the Lord, and the Wedding at Cana. The traditional blessing of homes with chalk.

The Epiphany Prayer marks the feast of January 6, when Christ was revealed to the Magi, at his Baptism and at the wedding in Cana. It asks the Lord to manifest himself in your own life and to guide you as the star guided the wise men. In many homes the front door is blessed with chalk, writing the year and the letters C, M and B. It closes the Christmas season with wonder and a call to bring your gifts to Christ.

Epiphany Prayer

Prayer for Epiphany:
Lord Jesus Christ, You revealed Yourself to the Magi as the Light of the Nations, the King of kings whom the stars obey. As those wise men journeyed far and knelt before You in worship, grant us the same spirit of seeking, of sacrifice, and of adoration.

They brought You gold — for You are King.
They brought You frankincense — for You are God.
They brought You myrrh — for You are Man who would die for us.

We too kneel before You now, bringing our own gifts: our faith, our love, our lives. Accept them, Lord, and transform them in the fire of Your love.

On this feast, we also remember Your Baptism in the Jordan, when the Father said 'This is my beloved Son,' and the Holy Spirit descended as a dove. And we remember the Wedding at Cana, where You turned water into wine and began Your public signs. In all these mysteries, You show Yourself to us — Emmanuel, God with us.

Blessing of the Home:
(Written above the door: 20 + C + M + B + [year])
The letters C, M, B stand for Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar — the traditional names of the Magi — and also for the Latin blessing: Christus Mansionem Benedicat, Christ Bless This House.

May Christ, who by his Incarnation gathered into one things earthly and heavenly, fill this home with His joy and peace, and bless all who dwell here. Amen.
