Family Meal Prayer
Three short graces children can memorize and take turns saying before family meals — from the traditional to the tender.
The Family Meal Prayer offers three short graces that children can memorise and take turns saying before meals, from the traditional Bless us, O Lord to the tenderer ones. Shared prayer at the table teaches gratitude and keeps the family together, even in a busy week. Each grace is only a few lines long, so it fits before the food gets cold. Rotating who leads gives every child a turn. Over the years, it becomes a family signature, something grown children repeat at their own tables. If someone is absent, add a short line for them. On feast days, add a special grace or a candle, and let the youngest child have the last word.

God is great and God is good,
let us thank Him for our food.
By His hands we all are fed,
give us, Lord, our daily bread.
Amen.
~~~
Thank You, God, for this good food,
for family near and blessings true.
We're grateful for this meal today —
help us love You more each day.
Amen.
~~~
Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts,
which we are about to receive from Thy bounty,
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
(Children can take turns saying their favorite, or learn all three.)
