Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity

For the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity — the Sunday after Pentecost. Adoring the mystery at the heart of Christian faith: the God who is love because He is relationship.

The Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity is for the solemnity on the Sunday after Pentecost, adoring the mystery at the heart of Christian faith: the God who is love because he is relationship. It praises Father, Son and Spirit as one God, and it asks you to live in that communion. Even the sign of the cross is a Trinitarian prayer. The Trinity is not a puzzle to solve but a mystery of love, in which the Father gives, the Son receives and the Spirit is the love between them. A short prayer each morning helps you live that mystery in your own relationships. Teach children to make the sign of the cross slowly.

Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity

Most Holy Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — we adore You.

Not three gods, but one God. Not one solitary self, but a communion of persons, a dance of giving and receiving that has no beginning and no end. The Father gives Himself entirely to the Son. The Son gives Himself entirely to the Father. And the Holy Spirit is the love that flows between them — not a bridge but a person, not an it but a He.

We do not fully understand this. We were not meant to fully understand it — we were meant to enter into it. For You have called us not merely to know about this love but to share in it. "That they may be one as We are one" (John 17:22).

Father, from whom all fatherhood is named — teach us to receive what You give, generously and with open hands.

Son, Word made flesh, who shows us the Father's face — teach us to give ourselves as You gave Yourself, holding nothing back.

Holy Spirit, Love in person, joy and gift — breathe through our lives and make us capable of the love that is Your nature.

Blessed Trinity, perfect love, our beginning and our end — draw us into Yourself.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
