Prayer for a Sick Child

Lord Jesus, You took the children in Your arms and blessed them. You healed the son of the widow of Nain. You raised Jairus's daughter with the words: "Little girl, arise."

Look now upon this child who is sick. Look upon this small one — who does not fully understand what is happening to them, who is afraid, who needs their parent but also needs a healing that only You can give.

We lay them at Your feet as the fathers and mothers of the Gospels did. We do not know why this suffering has come. We do not ask for answers tonight. We ask for healing.

Heal this child. If it is Your will — and we believe it often is — heal them completely, quickly, fully. Restore them to laughter and running and the ordinary joy of childhood.

And while healing comes: take away their fear. Let them know, somehow, that they are not alone. Grant them rest. Grant the doctors wisdom and skill. Grant the parents strength to keep watch through the night.

You are the same Lord who walked the roads of Galilee saying "be healed." Walk into this room. Say it again.
