Prayer for Immigrants and Those Far from Home

A prayer for immigrants, diaspora communities, and all who are far from their homeland

The Prayer for Immigrants and Those Far from Home is for people who live between two places: a homeland they miss and a new country that is still learning their name. It asks the God of the stranger to be a companion on unfamiliar streets, to bless paperwork and workplaces, and to keep memory and hope alive. The Bible repeatedly commands care for the foreigner, and this prayer carries that call into daily life. Use it for yourself, a relative abroad or a neighbour who has recently arrived.

Prayer for Immigrants and Those Far from Home

Lord, I am far from home.

I left everything I knew — the streets I grew up on, the faces I love, the food that tastes like childhood, the language that feels like home — and I came here. Sometimes for opportunity. Sometimes for necessity. Always at a cost I did not fully understand until I arrived.

Some days I am grateful. Some days I am homesick in a way that goes so deep I cannot explain it to anyone here. Some days I feel invisible in this new country — unseen, underestimated, misunderstood.

(Pause here and bring your specific experience to God)

Lord, You were a refugee. As a baby, You fled to Egypt with Mary and Joseph, displaced and vulnerable in a foreign land. You know what it means to be far from home. You know the longing for belonging.

Be with me here. Help me to build a life without erasing where I came from. Help me to belong here without forgetting there. Protect my family back home. Bridge the distances that technology cannot fully close.

Give me courage in hard moments, joy in small ones, and the grace to be a blessing to this country that has become my second home.

Mary, Solace of Migrants, pray for me.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
