Prayer for Peace
For peace in the world, in communities, in families, and in our own hearts — drawing on the rich tradition of Christian peacemaking.
The Prayer for Peace asks for peace in the world, in communities, in families and in our own hearts, drawing on the rich tradition of Christian peacemaking. It is a prayer for those who suffer war and violence, and for those who wish to be peacemakers. It begins with your own heart, because peace spreads outward from a calm centre. The Beatitudes call peacemakers blessed. Peace begins with small acts: a kind word, a forgiven wrong, a pause before you answer. Make a short prayer for peace each day, and pair it with something concrete. When you see conflict in the news, pray before you scroll. Pope Francis often said peace is a daily work of craftsmanship.

Lord God, You are the Prince of Peace. All true peace flows from You — not the false peace that comes from silence and suppression, but the peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7).
We look at our world and we see wars and rumors of wars. We see neighbors who have become enemies. We see families broken by anger. We see our own hearts divided against themselves.
Lord of Hosts, intervene. Let the nations beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks (Isaiah 2:4). Let those who make war discover that their humanity is bound up with the humanity of those they call enemy.
For the refugees and the displaced: provide shelter. For the innocent caught in violence: protect them. For soldiers on all sides: remind them that they are made in Your image, and so are those across from them.
Lord, begin Your peace with us. Let us not be complicit in dehumanization. Let our speech not inflame when it could heal. Let us practice the small peacemaking of daily life — the apology given, the grievance released, the enemy treated as a neighbor.
Saint Francis, who kissed the leper and walked unarmed to speak with the Sultan — pray for us. Teach us that peace is not weakness; it is the hardest form of courage.
Amen.
