Prayers to the Holy Spirit

Invoke the Holy Spirit for guidance, wisdom, and strength in daily life

Prayers to the Holy Spirit invite the third person of the Trinity to guide, teach and strengthen you. They include Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and short requests for wisdom, understanding, counsel and fortitude. They are fitting before study, a meeting, a decision or Mass, and are a central part of preparing for Confirmation. The Spirit often works gently, so pray with an open mind. The Spirit is the quiet friend of the Christian life. Learning to ask for his help by name, each morning, changes how you listen to others and how you see your own gifts.

Prayers to the Holy Spirit

COME, HOLY SPIRIT

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love.

V. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

VENI, CREATOR SPIRITUS
(Come, Creator Spirit)

Come, Creator Spirit,
visit the minds of those who are Yours;
fill with heavenly grace
the hearts that You have made.

You who are called the Paraclete,
gift of God most high,
living fountain, fire, love,
and anointing of the soul.

You are sevenfold in Your gifts,
finger of God's right hand;
You, the Father's solemn promise,
putting words upon our lips.

Kindle light in our minds,
pour love into our hearts,
and sustain with Your unfailing strength
the weakness of our bodies.

Drive far away our enemy,
and grant us peace at once;
with You as our guide to lead the way,
may we avoid all harm.

Through You may we come to know the Father,
and likewise know the Son;
and may we always believe in You,
the Spirit of them both. Amen.
