Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — celebrated on the Friday after Corpus Christi. The heart of Christ as the symbol and source of His infinite love.
The Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is for the solemnity celebrated on the Friday after Corpus Christi, honouring the heart of Christ as the symbol and source of his infinite love. It asks for a heart like his, gentle and humble. It is also prayed on First Fridays. Saying it before an image of the Sacred Heart helps you place your worries in his keeping. The image of the Sacred Heart, with flames and a crown of thorns, expresses a love that suffers for us. Praying to the Heart of Jesus is a way of asking for the same love in your own heart. Place a small image on your table and bring your worries to him.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
You said: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:28-29)
We come. We come exhausted, confused, ashamed, afraid, angry — we come as we are, not as we wish we were. Because You invited the weary, not the energetic. You invited the burdened, not those who have it together.
Sacred Heart, pierced on the cross so that blood and water poured forth — that wound is not closed. It remains open. The Church tradition says that from that wound flow the sacraments: the blood of the Eucharist, the water of Baptism. Even in death, You were giving.
June is the month of the Sacred Heart. But Your heart beats for us every day. Every Mass, every absolution, every moment of prayer is an encounter with that same inexhaustible love.
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, to whom You revealed this devotion, saw Your heart surrounded by thorns — the thorns of our ingratitude and sin — and a cross, and a flame. Pain, sacrifice, and love all together, inseparable.
We make the prayer that is the heart of this devotion:
O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine.
Amen.
