Discernment is a long Catholic tradition, practised by saints such as Ignatius of Loyola, and it begins with quiet. Over nine days this novena gives you a daily time to listen. You may not receive a lightning bolt, but you can grow in freedom and clarity. Bring it to a job offer, a proposal, a school choice or a change in ministry, and expect peace to grow, not necessarily a single sign.

Novena for Discernment – prayer for all nine days

Intention: For Wisdom, Clarity, and the Grace to Know and Follow God's Will

Heavenly Father, You have promised that if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask You, who gives generously to all without finding fault. I ask You now for the wisdom to know Your will and the courage to follow it.

Lord God, I face a decision and I do not know what to do. The path is unclear and I am afraid of making the wrong choice. But I believe that You have a plan for my life, and I want to follow it.

Open my eyes to see Your will. Speak to my heart through prayer, through Your Word, through the counsel of wise and holy people, and through the circumstances You place before me. Give me the interior peace that confirms I am on the right path, and the holy restlessness that warns me when I am straying.

Free me from my own desires and attachments so that I can hear Your voice clearly. Help me to seek not what I want, but what You want for me, trusting that Your plan is always better than my own.
