The "Son of Encouragement" — apostle and companion of Paul, who sold his field for the poor and saw the best in people when others wouldn't. Patron of Cyprus, peacemakers, and those who encourage.

Intention: For Encouragers, Missionaries, and Those Who Introduce Others to Faith
Saint Barnabas, your very name means "son of encouragement." When Saul came to Jerusalem after his conversion, no one would receive him — they feared it was a trap. But you, Barnabas, took him by the hand, brought him to the apostles, and vouched for him. Without your act of trust, the great missionary career of Saint Paul might never have begun.
You sold your field and laid the money at the apostles' feet. You traveled with Paul through Cyprus and Asia Minor, enduring hardship and opposition. When Paul refused to give John Mark a second chance, you stood up for him — and your instinct proved right. John Mark later wrote the Gospel that bears his name.
You saw the best in people. You took risks on those others had written off. Intercede for us as we begin this novena. Amen.
Saint Barnabas, in a world quick to write people off and slow to give second chances, your witness is urgently needed.
Pray for us, that we might have eyes to see the good in others — especially in those who have failed, who have a dark past, who seem unlikely candidates for grace. You saw Paul when the disciples saw a persecutor. Give us that vision.
Pray for encouragers in the Church — those who write the note, make the phone call, notice the discouraged person in the back pew, speak the word of affirmation that costs nothing but means everything.
Pray for reconcilers — those who refuse to let conflict be the last word, who pursue peace even at personal cost. You parted from Paul over a dispute about John Mark, yet the tradition holds you both in honor. Not every disagreement ends in rupture.
Saint Barnabas, Son of Encouragement, pray for us. Amen.
Lord God, through Saint Barnabas You showed us that the ministry of encouragement is a form of apostleship. Raise up in our time men and women with the gift of seeing what others miss — the potential in the broken, the beauty in the wounded, the giftedness in the overlooked. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Pray this prayer once a day for nine days in a row.
