Annunciation Novena – 9 Days of Prayer

Celebrating the angel Gabriel's announcement to Mary and the Incarnation of the Word

The Annunciation is the moment Mary said yes to the angel Gabriel, and the Word became flesh. This novena helps you pray for the courage to say your own yes to God, especially when his call is unclear. It is also a beloved prayer for expectant mothers and for anyone hoping to welcome a child. The solemnity is March 25, nine months before Christmas. The scene is only a few verses in Luke, but a whole life of trust unfolds from it. Use the novena as a way to listen for what God may be asking of you this year, and to accept it with Mary's honest, questioning yes.

Annunciation Novena – prayer for all nine days

Intention: For the Grace to Say Yes to God

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, and she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

O Blessed Virgin Mary, at the message of the Angel, you received the Word of God in your heart and in your body, and you gave Life to the world. We ask you to intercede for us before your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us, like you, to say "yes" to the will of God in our lives, even when we do not understand His plan.

O God, who willed that Your Word should take on the reality of human flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, grant that we, who profess our Redeemer to be God and man, may be worthy to share in His divine nature. Through the same Christ our Lord.

Most Holy Virgin, you said to the angel: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word." Teach us your humility. Give us the courage to trust in God's plan, especially when the path is unclear. May the Word made flesh dwell in us richly.

(Mention your intentions here.)

Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be...

The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. Amen.

Pray this prayer once a day for nine days in a row.
