St. Andrew Novena – 9 Days of Prayer
Novena to the Apostle who was the first called by Jesus — the fisherman who immediately left his nets and brought his brother Peter to Christ
St. Andrew was the first Apostle called by Jesus, a fisherman who left his nets at once and brought his brother Peter to Christ. He is the patron of Scotland and Russia. This novena asks for the gift of leading others to Jesus, one by one. His feast is November 30, and many people begin an Advent novena in his honour. Praying a novena to St. Andrew at the start of Advent is a custom in many places, and the Christmas Novena traditionally begins on his feast. Ask him to help you bring one person closer to Christ this season.
A novena is nine consecutive days of prayer. Begin nine days before the feast (November 30) and finish on its eve. You can pray this novena at any time of year.

Intention: For Missionaries and for the Grace of Bringing Others to Christ
St. Andrew, you were the first. Before Peter heard his name called, before James and John were summoned from their father's boat — you heard Jesus say 'Follow me' by the shores of the Sea of Galilee. And the Gospel says simply that you immediately left your nets and followed. No hesitation recorded. No list of conditions.
St. Andrew, the first thing you did after meeting Jesus was find your brother. You went to Simon Peter and said: 'We have found the Messiah.' Then you brought him to Jesus. This small act changed the world — because Peter became the Rock on which the Church was built. And it started with you, saying to your brother: 'Come and see.'
You were present at the feeding of the five thousand — you were the one who found the boy with five loaves and two fish. You did not say 'it is nothing.' You brought what was available to Jesus and let Him decide what to do with it. He multiplied it.
You were crucified in Patras, Greece, on an X-shaped cross — a cross you asked for because you did not consider yourself worthy to die on the same shape of cross as your Lord. You hung on it for two days, continuing to preach, until you died.
Patron of Scotland and Greece, Patron of missionaries, you who brought your brother to Christ — help me to bring someone to Christ too.
(Pause to mention your intentions)
St. Andrew, teach me the courage to say to those I love: 'Come and see.' Give me faith to bring whatever small thing I have — five loaves, two fish — and trust that Christ will multiply it. And pray for all missionaries who cross borders and seas and languages to say 'We have found the Messiah.'
