St. Clare of Assisi Novena – 9 Days of Prayer
Novena to the first woman to write a religious rule — co-founder of the Poor Clares and companion of St. Francis
St. Clare of Assisi was the first woman to write a religious rule and the co-founder of the Poor Clares with St. Francis. She is the patron of television because, when too ill to attend Mass, she is said to have seen it on the wall of her room. This novena asks for simplicity, trust and prayer. Her feast is August 11. She followed Francis in a life of poverty and became abbess of San Damiano, praying for her sisters and for the people of Assisi. The novena helps you to strip away clutter in your life and in your prayer, and to see clearly the one thing needed.
A novena is nine consecutive days of prayer. Begin nine days before the feast (August 11) and finish on its eve. You can pray this novena at any time of year.

Intention: For Creative Gifts, Media Workers, and the Courage of Radical Simplicity
St. Clare of Assisi, first woman to write a religious rule approved by the Church, you heard St. Francis preach one night and it changed your life forever. You left your wealthy family, cut off your hair, and chose holy poverty — and you never looked back.
St. Clare, friend of Francis and lover of the Poor Christ, I come to you seeking the clarity that your name suggests — clear vision, clear purpose, clear love.
You spent over forty years in the cloister, never leaving, and yet you are the patron of television and communications — because once, when too ill to attend Mass, you saw the entire liturgy miraculously projected on the wall of your cell. God showed you that love does not require movement, only presence.
(Pause here to mention your intentions)
St. Clare, pray for all who work in media, television, film, and creative arts — that they may use their gifts for God's glory. Obtain for me the grace I seek in this novena. And help me to see clearly what God is asking of me, and to say yes with your simplicity and joy.
