St. John Vianney Novena – 9 Days of Prayer
Novena to the Curé of Ars who transformed a village through prayer, penance, and the Sacrament of Confession
St. John Vianney, the Curé of Ars, transformed a French village through prayer, penance and long hours in the confessional. He is the patron of parish priests. This novena prays for priests and for those who need the sacrament of confession. It is also a prayer for vocations. His feast is August 4. He reportedly spent many hours a day hearing confessions in a small French village. Today he reminds priests that quiet faithfulness bears fruit. If you have been away from confession, this novena can help you take the first step.
A novena is nine consecutive days of prayer. Begin nine days before the feast (August 4) and finish on its eve. You can pray this novena at any time of year.

Intention: For Priests, Confessors, and the Grace of Conversion
St. John Vianney, humble Curé of Ars, you spent up to sixteen hours a day in the confessional because you believed that nothing was more important than restoring a soul to God. You transformed an entire village through holiness alone.
St. John Vianney, patron of parish priests, I come to you with needs that only God can meet. You who could read souls, who wept for sinners, and who mortified your body so that you could pray more — teach me something of your love for God.
You said: 'The saints did not all begin well, but they all ended well.' I may not have begun well. But I want to end well. Help me to return to the Sacrament of Confession with humble confidence, knowing that God's mercy is greater than all my sins.
(Pause here to mention your intentions)
St. John Vianney, pray for all priests who are weary, for all who have left the faith, and for me in my particular need. You gave everything for souls. Intercede for mine. Obtain the grace I seek in this novena.
