St. Luke Novena – 9 Days of Prayer

Novena to the physician, Evangelist, and companion of St. Paul — patron of all in the medical profession

St. Luke the Evangelist was a physician and the companion of St. Paul, and the author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. He is the patron of doctors, surgeons and healers. This novena prays for those who work in medicine and for the sick they serve. Tradition also names him a painter of icons. His feast is October 18. His Gospel is the one with the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son, stories of mercy that every healer knows well. Pray it before a shift, an operation or a medical appointment.

St. Luke Novena – prayer for all nine days

Intention: For Healing, Medical Workers, and All Who Are Sick

St. Luke the Evangelist, beloved physician and companion of the apostles, you joined faith with the art of medicine. You wrote the most compassionate Gospel — giving us the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan, and the healing of the ten lepers.

St. Luke, physician of body and soul, I come to you with my needs. You who accompanied St. Paul through shipwrecks and persecution, and who gave us the Gospel of mercy — intercede for me and for all who suffer illness.

You showed us a Jesus who sought out the sick, the outcast, and the overlooked. Help all doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers to see the face of Christ in every patient they serve. Inspire them with your compassion, your skill, and your dedication.

(Pause here to mention your intentions)

St. Luke, patron of physicians, pray for the healing of body and soul that I need. Obtain for me the grace I request in this novena. And help me always to remember that every healing is a gift from God, the Divine Physician.
