St. Monica Novena – 9 Days of Prayer

For the conversion of loved ones, patience in prayer, and families in difficulty

St. Monica prayed for years for her son Augustine, whose wandering life eventually became a story of conversion. She is the patron of mothers and anyone praying for a wayward child or loved one. This novena gives you nine days to keep that persistent, patient prayer going. Her feast is August 27. She followed Augustine across the sea, wept and prayed, and saw him baptised. Her example tells every parent that no prayer for a child is wasted, even if the answer comes years later and in unexpected ways.

Feast of St. Monica · August 279 dayssaint

A novena is nine consecutive days of prayer. Begin nine days before the feast (August 27) and finish on its eve. You can pray this novena at any time of year.

St. Monica Novena – prayer for all nine days

Intention: For the Conversion of Loved Ones and Patience in Prayer

Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother, many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime. Yet you never despaired or lost faith. With your prayers, you obtained the conversion of your husband, your mother-in-law, and your famous son Augustine.

Dear St. Monica, you were once the mournful mother of a wayward son. Your faithfulness to prayer brought about the conversion of your son Augustine and led him to the heights of sanctity. Inspire me with boundless confidence in the power of prayer.

(Pause here to mention your intentions)

Dear St. Monica, I entrust to you the intentions of my heart, especially for those I love who have wandered from the faith or who are living in ways that lead them away from God. You who persevered in prayer for more than seventeen years, teach me patience and perseverance. Help me never to give up hope.

Pray for me and for all mothers and fathers who weep for their children. Obtain for us the grace to trust in God's timing and to never cease praying, even when we see no results.

Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be...

St. Monica, pray for us and for all our loved ones.

Pray this prayer once a day for nine days in a row.
