Novena to Saint Pius X – 9 Days of Prayer

A nine-day novena to Saint Pius X (1835–1914), the humble pope who reformed the liturgy, encouraged daily Communion, lowered the age of First Communion, and resisted the errors of modernism — patron of pilgrims and first communicants.

St. Pius X was a pastor's pope who reformed the liturgy, encouraged frequent Communion and lowered the age of First Communion to about seven. He is called the Pope of the Eucharist. This novena prays for children preparing for First Communion. His feast is August 21. Pray the novena for your parish's first communicants, and for your own reception of the Eucharist. His motto was to restore all things in Christ. The nine days also work for catechists who prepare children.

Novena to Saint Pius X – prayer for all nine days

Intention: For Children Preparing for First Communion, for the Reform of the Liturgy, and for the Grace to Receive Christ Daily

Saint Pius X, you who as pope still wore your worn village cassock because you gave your salary away — who wept when told you had been elected because you knew the weight of it — who fought for the children to receive Christ at the age of reason, because you believed that nothing in the world is more important than the Eucharist: pray for us. Amen.

Saint Pius X,
you came to the Chair of Peter from poverty.
You returned there constantly — in spirit —
because you never forgot that you were a priest first,
and that the priest's whole life is the Eucharist.

You gave the children Jesus.
You said: let them come early.
Let the age of reason be enough.
They need Him as much as the adults —
perhaps more, because they receive Him without baggage.

That decision alone changed millions of lives.
One decree. One holy pope.
One love for the Host.

Saint Pius X, we pray for all children
approaching their First Communion.
May it be what you wanted it to be:
not a performance, not a party —
but a meeting. A real one.
Jesus and the child, face to face.

And for us who have received many times:
let us not be so used to the miracle that we miss it.
Let us receive with something of the child's wonder.

Pray for priests who are tired.
Pray for parishes that have lost their center.
Pray for the Church to find again what you found:
that all things must be restored in Christ,
because without Him nothing holds.

Amen.
Hail Mary... Our Father... Glory Be...

Saint Pius X, pray for us.

Pray this prayer once a day for nine days in a row.
