Transfiguration of the Lord Novena – 9 Days of Prayer

A nine-day novena for the Feast of the Transfiguration (August 6) — meditating on the moment when Christ's divine glory shone through His human form, revealing to Peter, James, and John who He truly is.

The Transfiguration recalls the moment on a mountain when Jesus' face shone like the sun and Moses and Elijah appeared with him. It strengthened Peter, James and John for the Passion. This novena invites you to look for glimpses of glory in ordinary life. The feast is August 6. Peter wanted to build three tents and stay on the mountain, but they all had to come down. Pray the novena for the grace to carry the light from prayer into daily work, and to trust Jesus when the road leads down.

Transfiguration of the Lord Novena – prayer for all nine days

Intention: For the Grace to See Christ's Glory in Ordinary Life, and the Courage to Follow Him Down the Mountain

Lord Jesus Christ, You who were transfigured on the mountain before Your disciples, revealing for a moment the divine glory You always possessed — open our eyes. Help us to see You as You truly are: not only the suffering servant, not only the gentle teacher, but the eternal Son of God, radiant and glorious, before whom the prophets bow and the Father speaks. Let this novena be a Tabor moment for us — a glimpse of who You are that carries us through the valleys ahead. Amen.

Glorious Lord Jesus,
You led Your disciples up the mountain
and were transfigured before them.
For one luminous moment the veil was lifted,
and they saw — in Your human face —
the face of God.

Your face shone like the sun.
Your garments became white as light.
Moses and Elijah stood with You,
bearing witness across the ages.
And the Father's voice broke through the cloud:
'This is my beloved Son — listen to Him.'

Lord, we need Tabor moments.
We live in the valley — in ordinary days,
in discouragement, in unanswered questions,
in pain that does not quickly resolve.
Give us a glimpse of Your glory
to carry us through what lies ahead.

Peter wanted to stay on the mountain.
We understand. The vision was so beautiful.
But You led them down again — into the crowds,
into the healing of the broken, into the cross.
Help us to do the same:
to bring the light we have seen
back into the darkness that needs it.

Lord Jesus, transfigure us.
Let Your light shine through our weakness.
Let Your glory be glimpsed in our ordinary lives.
Let those who walk with us
see — however faintly — the face of God.

Amen.
Hail Mary... Our Father... Glory Be...

Lord of glory, shine on us.
